Tar Surfacing in Sandton
We are an East Rand crew and Sandton is a run north for us. We will say so plainly — and we will tell you when a job is too small to be worth either of our time.
- Complex access roads and townhouse driveways
- Free site visit and a written quote, sub-base itemised
- Honest about distance — we say when it is not worth the trip
No phone quotes. Somebody comes out and measures.
What we get called about
Complex road breaking up at the entrance? Driveway sinking at the garage?
-
It sank where the car stands.
The base was never compacted properly, so the weight found the soft ground under it.
-
The tar cracked in a pattern.
That is the ground moving underneath, not the tar wearing out.
-
Water sits on it after a storm.
No falls were set, so the water stays, soaks in, and the base gives up from below.
-
The old surface is breaking up at the entrance.
The entrance takes every vehicle that comes to the property, and it is usually built the same as the rest — which is not enough.
Shared roads carry delivery traffic. They have to be built for it.
How we build it
In Sandton, the base gets built before anything is laid
A surface is only as good as what is under it. In Sandton that is worth saying out loud, because it is the part every cheap quote leaves out and the part you cannot inspect once the job is done.
- 01
Strip and shape
Off comes the topsoil, and we cut the falls so water leaves the surface.
- 02
Sub-base
G5 crushed stone, compacted in layers, deep enough for what drives on it.
- 03
Prime coat
MC-30 bitumen, so the asphalt bonds instead of sitting loose on the stone.
- 04
Asphalt
6 mm or 9 mm on driveways, 13 mm where trucks run. Hot, screeded, rolled.
- 05
Edges and clean-up
Straight edges or kerbing, then swept and blown before we leave.
In Sandton
We are not local to Sandton, and we will not pretend to be
Our base is on the East Rand. Sandton is a proper run for us, up the N3 or across, and there is no point writing a page that suggests otherwise — you would find out on the first phone call anyway.
What we will say is that the trip is worth it for the right job. A complex access road in Bryanston or Rivonia, a set of townhouse driveways in Morningside, a parking area in Woodmead — those are jobs where a crew that builds the base properly earns its money and where the travel disappears into the size of the work. A single short domestic driveway probably is not, and we would rather tell you that on the phone than send somebody out to quote a job we cannot price competitively. If we are the wrong contractor for your job, you will hear it from us early.
We come north — book a site visit

Why Choose Us
Why Sandton property owners take our quote
-
Straight about the distance
We come north for work that justifies it and we say so when a job does not. That is more useful to you than a page pretending we are around the corner.
-
We build the base, and we show it to you
Sub-base, compaction, prime coat, then tar. It is itemised on your quote as its own line, so you can hold it against a quote that has not got one.
-
A price before we start
Written, per square metre, off an actual measure-up. No telephone quotes. No number that grows halfway through.
-
We are in Joburg every day
East Rand base, metro service area. Not a national call centre that sends whoever is free.
-
The crew that quotes is the crew that arrives
We do not subcontract the lay. James quotes every job himself.

What It Costs

We also do asphalt milling, slurry seal, cape seal, tar rejuvenation and sealing, crack sealing, kerbing and road marking. Pothole patching we do as part of a larger job. Ask us when we come out.
What it costs
What a Sandton job usually turns on
Priced per square metre, measured on site. These are the three things that move it most here.
-
Size of the job
Bigger areas absorb the travel. A single short driveway in Sandton is the one case where we may not be the best-value option, and we will say so.
-
Access and estate rules
Gated estates and complexes often restrict working hours and vehicle access. That affects the days, and the days affect the price.
-
What the road carries
A shared access road takes delivery and refuse traffic. It is built deeper than a driveway, and the quote will show that.
Free site visit. Written quote. No obligation.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you come out to Sandton?
Yes, though we are honest that it is a run for us — our base is on the East Rand. For a complex road, a set of driveways or a parking area it is well worth the trip. For one short domestic driveway we may not be your best-value option, and we will tell you that on the phone rather than waste your morning.
Is there a tar surfacing company near me in Sandton?
There are contractors based closer. What we bring is a crew that builds and itemises the sub-base rather than quoting around it. Phone 064 856 3715 and describe the job — we will tell you honestly whether we are the right people for it.
What happens if it rains on the day?
We move you. Nothing gets laid in the rain, ever. In summer we start before sunrise so the surface is down and rolled before the afternoon storms come over. We would rather move you to Thursday than come back in two years.
Can you not just tar over what is there?
Sometimes. If the base underneath is still sound we can mill the old surface off and lay a new one. Often the answer is no, because the old surface broke up precisely because the base failed. We will tell you which one you have when we look at it.
Do you charge extra to travel to Sandton?
There is no call-out charge for a quote anywhere in the metro. On the job itself, travel is already inside the per-square-metre price, which is part of why job size matters more up here than it does on the East Rand.
How long does a tarred surface last?
Fifteen to twenty years if the base under it is right. Laid straight onto soft ground, you will see cracking and sinking inside two or three summers. That is the whole difference, and it is the part you cannot see once the job is done.
Can you work inside a gated estate with restricted hours?
Yes. Tell us the estate rules when we quote — working hours, vehicle access, induction requirements — and we build them into the programme. Restricted hours usually mean more days, and the quote will say so rather than surprise you.
Who comes out to quote?
James, the owner. He quotes every job himself and does the measure-up on your property. Marius writes up the per-square-metre price and the sub-base breakdown afterwards.
