Tar Surfacing in Germiston

Germiston is where most of our work is. Tarred driveways, complex access roads, yards and parking areas — built on a proper base, priced per square metre before we start.

  • We are out in Germiston most weeks — usually a same-week site visit
  • Free measure-up and a written quote, sub-base itemised
  • Saturday morning visits, 08:00–13:00

No phone quotes. Somebody comes out and measures.

What we get called about

Sunken wheel tracks? Water standing after a storm? Edges breaking away?

  • It sank where the car stands.

The base was never compacted properly, so the weight found the soft ground under it.

  • The tar cracked in a pattern.

That is the ground moving underneath, not the tar wearing out.

  • Water sits on it after a storm.

No falls were set, so the water stays, soaks in, and the base gives up from below.

  • The old surface is breaking up at the entrance.

The entrance takes every vehicle that comes to the property, and it is usually built the same as the rest — which is not enough.

All of it is the same problem, and it is under the tar, not in it.

How we build it

In Germiston, the base gets built before anything is laid

A surface is only as good as what is under it. In Germiston that is worth saying out loud, because it is the part every cheap quote leaves out and the part you cannot inspect once the job is done.

  1. 01

    Strip and shape

Off comes the topsoil, and we cut the falls so water leaves the surface.

  2. 02

    Sub-base

G5 crushed stone, compacted in layers, deep enough for what drives on it.

  3. 03

    Prime coat

MC-30 bitumen, so the asphalt bonds instead of sitting loose on the stone.

  4. 04

    Asphalt

6 mm or 9 mm on driveways, 13 mm where trucks run. Hot, screeded, rolled.

  5. 05

    Edges and clean-up

Straight edges or kerbing, then swept and blown before we leave.

In Germiston

What we mostly do in Germiston

Two kinds of work, and they sit almost side by side here. Domestic driveways in Lambton, Primrose, Delville and Elsburg — older properties, long driveways, and a lot of them steep enough that the falls and the drainage need thinking about before anything else. Many were tarred once, decades ago, and what is left is a thin skin over a base that has had it.

Then the industrial side: yards and hardstands through Wadeville, Knights and Elandsfontein. Those are load problems, not looks problems. The base has to be specified against the trucks that turn on it, and turning loads are the hardest thing any surface takes. With the R29 and the N17 carrying that much heavy traffic through, a surface built for cars does not last on a property where delivery vehicles come and go. We ask what uses the area before we write a number.

Why Choose Us

Why Germiston property owners take our quote

  • We are already here most weeks

Germiston is our closest work, so a site visit is usually same-week, and we are not travelling in from the other side of the metro.

  • We build the base, and we show it to you

Sub-base, compaction, prime coat, then tar. It is itemised on your quote as its own line, so you can hold it against a quote that has not got one.

  • A price before we start

Written, per square metre, off an actual measure-up. No telephone quotes. No number that grows halfway through.

  • We are in Joburg every day

East Rand base, metro service area. Not a national call centre that sends whoever is free.

  • The crew that quotes is the crew that arrives

We do not subcontract the lay. James quotes every job himself.

What it costs

What a Germiston job usually turns on

Priced per square metre, measured on site. These are the three things that move it most here.

  • What is under the existing surface

Germiston has been built on, dug up and filled in for a hundred years. Made ground and old fill mean more base work. Sound ground means less. We strip and look rather than assume.

  • What drives on it

A domestic driveway and a yard that takes deliveries are two different builds, at two different depths.

  • Where the water goes

Older Germiston properties often have no falls at all. That has to be fixed before anything is laid.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you work in Germiston regularly?

Yes. It is our closest work and where most of our jobs are. We are usually in the area several days a week, which is why site visits here are normally same-week.

Is there a tar surfacing company near me in Germiston?

We are an East Rand crew, so yes — but we have no office to walk into. Phone 064 856 3715, tell us the street, and we will come and measure.

How much does it cost to tar a driveway in Germiston?

It is priced per square metre, and the number depends on the area, what is under the ground now and how deep the base has to go. We do not quote over the phone, because that would be a guess. The site visit and the written quote are both free.

What happens if it rains on the day?

We move you. Nothing gets laid in the rain, ever. In summer we start before sunrise so the surface is down and rolled before the afternoon storms come over. We would rather move you to Thursday than come back in two years.

My driveway in Lambton was tarred years ago. Can it be resurfaced?

Sometimes. If the base under it is still sound, we can mill the old surface off and lay a new one, which is cheaper than starting again. If the cracking is in a pattern, the base has moved and resurfacing would just fail again. We will tell you straight which one you have.

Do I need to be there when you quote?

It helps. We would rather walk it with you, so you can point out what bothers you and we can show you where the water is going. That is why we offer Saturday morning visits between 08:00 and 13:00.

Do you do industrial yards in Wadeville and Knights?

Yes, and hardstands. Those get a deeper base and 13 mm stone, specified against the vehicles that use the site and written on the quote so it is checkable.

Who comes out to quote?

James, the owner. He quotes every job himself and does the measure-up on your property. Marius writes up the per-square-metre price and the sub-base breakdown afterwards.
