In Kempton Park
Airport-side traffic is a different specification
Kempton Park is logistics country. Pomona and the industrial pockets around OR Tambo are full of yards that take interlink deliveries daily, and a surface built to a domestic specification does not survive a year of that. The failures show up first where the trucks turn and where they stand, because turning and standing loads are harder on a surface than driving loads.
So we ask three questions before anything else: what drives on it, how often, and where does it turn. Those answers set the sub-base depth and the stone size, and both go on the quote in writing. The R21 puts the whole area within easy reach for us, and yards here almost always get laid in phases — nobody near the airport can afford to lose the whole hardstand for a week. The domestic side, in Bonaero Park, Birchleigh and Glen Marais, is ordinary driveway work.
What we get called about
Rutted where the trucks turn? Potholes back at the gate again?
-
It sank where the car stands.
The base was never compacted properly, so the weight found the soft ground under it.
-
The tar cracked in a pattern.
That is the ground moving underneath, not the tar wearing out.
-
Water sits on it after a storm.
No falls were set, so the water stays, soaks in, and the base gives up from below.
-
The old surface is breaking up at the entrance.
The entrance takes every vehicle that comes to the property, and it is usually built the same as the rest — which is not enough.
The load decides the build. Everything else follows from it.
How we build it
In Kempton Park, the base gets built before anything is laid
A surface is only as good as what is under it. In Kempton Park that is worth saying out loud, because it is the part every cheap quote leaves out and the part you cannot inspect once the job is done.
- 01
Strip and shape
Off comes the topsoil, and we cut the falls so water leaves the surface.
- 02
Sub-base
G5 crushed stone, compacted in layers, deep enough for what drives on it.
- 03
Prime coat
MC-30 bitumen, so the asphalt bonds instead of sitting loose on the stone.
- 04
Asphalt
6 mm or 9 mm on driveways, 13 mm where trucks run. Hot, screeded, rolled.
- 05
Edges and clean-up
Straight edges or kerbing, then swept and blown before we leave.

We also do asphalt milling, slurry seal, cape seal, tar rejuvenation and sealing, crack sealing, kerbing and road marking. Pothole patching we do as part of a larger job. Ask us when we come out.
Why Choose Us
Why Kempton Park property owners take our quote
-
We spec for interlink traffic
Base depth and stone size against the actual vehicles, written on the quote. If a quote does not state a depth, you have no way to know what you are getting.
-
We build the base, and we show it to you
Sub-base, compaction, prime coat, then tar. It is itemised on your quote as its own line, so you can hold it against a quote that has not got one.
-
A price before we start
Written, per square metre, off an actual measure-up. No telephone quotes. No number that grows halfway through.
-
We are in Joburg every day
East Rand base, metro service area. Not a national call centre that sends whoever is free.
-
The crew that quotes is the crew that arrives
We do not subcontract the lay. James quotes every job himself.
What it costs
What a Kempton Park job usually turns on
Priced per square metre, measured on site. These are the three things that move it most here.
-
The heaviest vehicle that uses it
Not the average one. The base is built for the worst case, because that is what breaks it.
-
Turning and standing areas
These take the hardest punishment and usually get a deeper build than the through-routes.
-
Phasing around operations
Laying in sections so the site keeps running takes longer than a clear site, and it is priced as such.
Free site visit. Written quote. No obligation.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a tar surfacing company near me in Kempton Park?
Yes. We work the airport side regularly from our East Rand base. No premises to visit — phone 064 856 3715 and we will come out to the site.
Can you surface a yard that takes interlink deliveries?
Yes. It gets a deeper sub-base and 13 mm stone, and the turning areas usually get more again. We state the depth and the stone size on the quote so it is checkable rather than a matter of opinion later.
How much does it cost to tar a driveway in Kempton Park?
It is priced per square metre, and the number depends on the area, what is under the ground now and how deep the base has to go. We do not quote over the phone, because that would be a guess. The site visit and the written quote are both free.
How long does a driveway take?
Most domestic driveways run one to three days, weather permitting. A yard or a parking area depends on the size and how much base work it needs. The number of working days goes on the quote.
We cannot close the yard. Can you work around us?
Yes, and most of our work here is phased. We lay in sections, agree the sequence with you before we start, and keep a route in and out at all times.
How long does a tarred surface last?
Fifteen to twenty years if the base under it is right. Laid straight onto soft ground, you will see cracking and sinking inside two or three summers. That is the whole difference, and it is the part you cannot see once the job is done.
The surface keeps failing where the trucks turn. Why only there?
Turning loads are the hardest thing a surface takes — the tyre scrubs sideways rather than rolling. If the base under the turning area is the same depth as the rest, that is where it will go first, every time.
Who comes out to quote?
James, the owner. He quotes every job himself and does the measure-up on your property. Marius writes up the per-square-metre price and the sub-base breakdown afterwards.
