Tar Surfacing in Edenvale

Driveways, small business yards and parking areas across Edenvale. Tight sites, where how we get the material in is as much of the price as what goes down.

  • Tight-access sites priced honestly, not discovered halfway
  • Free site visit and a written quote, sub-base itemised
  • Saturday morning visits, 08:00–13:00

No phone quotes. Somebody comes out and measures.

Service Area

Around Edenvale, and across the metro

We work across Edenvale — Eastleigh, Illiondale, Dowerglen, Greenstone Hill, Sebenza and Harmelia. No walk-in office — we come to the job.

Areas We Serve:

Somewhere not on the list? Phone us. If it is in the metro, we probably come out to it.

What we get called about

Truck cannot reach the back? Yard breaking up where it is used most?

  • It sank where the car stands.

The base was never compacted properly, so the weight found the soft ground under it.

  • The tar cracked in a pattern.

That is the ground moving underneath, not the tar wearing out.

  • Water sits on it after a storm.

No falls were set, so the water stays, soaks in, and the base gives up from below.

  • The old surface is breaking up at the entrance.

The entrance takes every vehicle that comes to the property, and it is usually built the same as the rest — which is not enough.

Access and load — the two things a quote should have priced already.

How we build it

In Edenvale, the base gets built before anything is laid

A surface is only as good as what is under it. In Edenvale that is worth saying out loud, because it is the part every cheap quote leaves out and the part you cannot inspect once the job is done.

  1. 01

    Strip and shape

Off comes the topsoil, and we cut the falls so water leaves the surface.

  2. 02

    Sub-base

G5 crushed stone, compacted in layers, deep enough for what drives on it.

  3. 03

    Prime coat

MC-30 bitumen, so the asphalt bonds instead of sitting loose on the stone.

  4. 04

    Asphalt

6 mm or 9 mm on driveways, 13 mm where trucks run. Hot, screeded, rolled.

  5. 05

    Edges and clean-up

Straight edges or kerbing, then swept and blown before we leave.

In Edenvale

In Edenvale, access is half the job

Edenvale mixes small commercial with domestic on properties that are often tighter than they look from the street. Eastleigh, Illiondale, Dowerglen and the Greenstone side all have sites where the material truck cannot get close to where the asphalt has to go.

That is not a problem, but it is a cost, and it is the one contractors most often leave off a quote and discover on the day. When we measure, we work out how the material reaches the far end. If it has to move by barrow, we say so and we price it. You would rather see that on the quote than hear about it on the second morning.

Why Choose Us

Why Edenvale property owners take our quote

  • We price the access, not discover it

If the truck cannot reach the far end, the material moves by hand. We work that out at the measure-up and it goes on the quote.

  • We build the base, and we show it to you

Sub-base, compaction, prime coat, then tar. It is itemised on your quote as its own line, so you can hold it against a quote that has not got one.

  • A price before we start

Written, per square metre, off an actual measure-up. No telephone quotes. No number that grows halfway through.

  • We are in Joburg every day

East Rand base, metro service area. Not a national call centre that sends whoever is free.

  • The crew that quotes is the crew that arrives

We do not subcontract the lay. James quotes every job himself.

What it costs

What a Edenvale job usually turns on

Priced per square metre, measured on site. These are the three things that move it most here.

  • How the material reaches the work

Truck access, or barrow. It is labour time either way, and it belongs on the quote before the job starts.

  • Working around a live business

A small commercial yard usually has to keep trading. Phasing costs time and we price it openly.

  • Existing surface and drainage

Whether the old surface can be milled and reused, and where the water is currently going.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a tar surfacing company near me in Edenvale?

Yes. Edenvale is a short run for us from the East Rand and we are through it regularly. Phone 064 856 3715 — there is no office, we come to the job.

The truck cannot get to the back of my property. Is that a problem?

Not a problem, but it is a cost. The material moves by barrow, which is labour time. We work it out when we measure and put it on the quote, so it is not a surprise on the second morning.

What happens if it rains on the day?

We move you. Nothing gets laid in the rain, ever. In summer we start before sunrise so the surface is down and rolled before the afternoon storms come over. We would rather move you to Thursday than come back in two years.

Can you not just tar over what is there?

Sometimes. If the base underneath is still sound we can mill the old surface off and lay a new one. Often the answer is no, because the old surface broke up precisely because the base failed. We will tell you which one you have when we look at it.

Can you surface a small business yard without closing it?

Usually, yes. We lay in sections and agree the sequence with you first, so there is always a way in and a way out. It takes longer than a clear site and the quote says so.

Do I need to be there when you quote?

It helps. We would rather walk it with you, so you can point out what bothers you and we can show you where the water is going. That is why we offer Saturday morning visits between 08:00 and 13:00.

How much notice do you need?

For the site visit, a couple of days. For the work itself it depends on the weather and what is already booked — Thabo will give you a realistic date rather than an optimistic one.

Is tar cheaper than paving?

Usually yes, per square metre, and it goes down a lot faster. Paving wins on looks and on lifting one section to repair it. We do not do brick paving, so we have no reason to push you either way.
